My favorite song, at the moment:

Flagpole Sitta by Harvey Danger

There’s no reason for it. I don’t really relate. I don’t even really get it.  But I cannot stop singing it. Ever. It is the top-played song on my iPod, and sometimes when it gets done I hit the “back” button to listen to it again right away. It’s inexplicable.

JeniNova: The Movie

It’s starting to chip.

It’s starting to chip. The nail polish. It’s chipping. No big deal; I plan on taking it off on Thursday and doing new nails on Friday as per usual anyway.

Some interesting life developments:

The job interview? They hired me two hours after it. Not too shabby.  I had my first day today, and it was kind of boring since it was slow and as the new kid I didn’t get to do anything, but here’s to hoping I figure out what’s going on right quick and get settling in.

Things I’m Allowed To Do At My Desk:

  • Eat. Snacks, lunch, whatever
  • Drink “anything but alcohol”
  • Do homework
  • Peruse Facebook
  • Play online games
  • Read a book
  • Doodle

Honestly, I think this is the job for me.

In other life developments, this weekend was pretty stinking lame. My old roommate—kind of, we lived together during the school year but not this summer and will again in the fall—wanted to do something with myself and our other roommate, who lives with me this summer. This old roommate, whom we shall call Brown, is…. difficult. I like her. Heck, she’s one of the best friends I’ve ever had.  But by god, does she hate drinking. I mean, you want to ensure she talks bad about you as soon as you’re gone? Drink a couple of beers in her presence. Seriously, it’s like the end of the world for her. I could go on about this, and I will in the future, but for now just know that she’s 22 and freaked out over having to cut through a bar in order to reach a restaurant at a brewing company. Yikes.

So, she wanted to hang out with myself and Red (roommate #3). We opted for dinner at a Mexican joint and then a movie: Pirates of the Caribbean 4 (not nearly as shitty as the third Pirates, probably on level or slightly better than the second, and of course it can’t even touch the first). The movie ended at 11:30pm, and at that time I checked my phone.

Text message.

It was sent an hour earlier from my best best friend, a girl I went to high school with and now attend college with. Unlike Brown, this friend—Tiny—is a big fan of the bars.  Her text demanded that I meet her at the place her friend bartends.  I had heard they were having an end-of-the-world party there that night (Friday before the once future rapture).

Crushing waves of sadness ensued. I had spent eight bucks to see a movie that was great and all, but I have no desire to see again. I went with Brown, who complained about her summer roommate’s plans to go to the bars that night (because, you know, that’s so evil).  I could have spent that money on two or three drinks and hung out with Tiny and her monster crew—monstrously large, not full of weirdos.  It was too late at that point. I was tired, and there was no way to ditch Red and Brown which a)would have been rude and b)would have left them stranded since I was the one who drove. Plus, I feel like I can’t ever admit I’m going to the bars when Brown is around or she’ll give me the evil eye.

So, no bars for me on Friday.  And on Saturday Tiny and Co. didn’t go out, since they had partied hard Andrew WK-style on Friday night.  Since it’s summer, my other group of bar buds aren’t even in town.  Red isn’t 21 yet, and my roommate who is 21—we’ll call her A—was in a different state to see her boyfriend’s sister’s graduation.  So I didn’t do anything.  Well… I drank by myself while watching a movie, but that’s not nearly as entertaining.  I just had some sprite and UV Cherry, which isn’t strong but is mighty tasty. And don’t judge me for liking the girly drinks. I’m a girl. Of course I like them.

Anyway, this weekend was kind of crummy.  I don’t get to the bars too often since half of my friends aren’t 21 yet and I live with a girl who openly judges you for keeping wine in the apartment, and I miss going. I don’t even like getting drunk—well, I like getting pleasantly drunk, but when I hit that stage I switch to pop and that’s that.  It’s less about the liquor and more about the fact that bars=friends and shenanigans.

Anyway, this post turned into more of a rant than I really intended, and now I’m sure you think I’m an alcoholic. But give me a break, I’ve only been 21 for five months so drinking is still a somewhat exciting topic for me.

Next time I post something, maybe it will be an interesting link or picture and not a ramble.

Later, gators.

A colorful checkerboard pattern, took me about two hours.  As I put on the finishing touches I got an email saying I have a job interview at nine tomorrow morning.  The interviewer better like ‘em, because I am NOT removing it right away. :)

Welcome to my mind.

Welcome to my mind.  It’s a strange and scary place, a place where the internal editor and common sense occasionally don’t speak up often enough and lead me to posting things that may possibly come back to bite me in the butt.  At the old blog, this happened. Well, almost.  No butt-biting actually occurred (literally or figuratively), but it put me in an awkward spot and led me to making the blog completely private and undetectable.

Which, of course, completely negates the point of a blog.

So, I took some security measures and got a little tricksy, and TADA: tumblr.

But.  You don’t care about that.

Actually, you probably don’t care about a lot of what I have to say. That’s alright. This is for me, not for you.  But if you happen to come out of this experience somewhat entertained, then good on you and good on me. We can have ice cream to celebrate.

You’ll have to be patient with me. I tend to post regularly and then totally forget that I have a blog at all for a couple of months.  However, I do get email notifications if somebody comments or asks a question or whatever.  So feel free to remind me that I have a legit anonymous internet presence now.

Maybe you want to know about me. Who am I? What colors do I like? Etc? Etc?

I’m Jenica Voronova, aka JeniNova. I like the color ALL OF THEM. My bedroom window is ground level with my hillbilly redneck neighbors’ back yard.  They have an impressively stocked gun rack in their house. In case of zombie outbreak, I know whose house I’m going to.  I listen to lots of music all the time. I listen to podcasts, although I can’t tell you the name of my favorite since I’m rather involved with it and I don’t want them to find me.  I like Harry Potter and Stephen King, Jurassic Park and Meg Cabot.  I live in the Midwest.  I’m a college senior in a major that, given three tries, you wouldn’t guess.  I have ten fingers and ten toes, I dye my hair, and I’m a fly-on-the-wall observer of the internet counterculture.

My artistic ability covers only nail painting abilities and doodles, and to be honest both are the result of boredom and excess time anyway.  I like vampire books, movies, and tv shows so long as the vampires don’t sparkle. I like science fiction and fantasy. I like action adventure and comedy. I like historical fiction, steampunk, and alternate histories. I like mockumentaries and documentaries. I am addicted to YouTube, Netflix, and wearing rings.  I like Long Islands, rum and cokes, margaritas, and a little drink called the Pissed Off Japanese Minnow Farmer. I like underground bars, bars that serve you drinks in glass instead of plastic, German bars with serenading accordion players, and bars that play classic rock.  I like bars with pool tables, but I don’t play pool.  I like long road trips.  I like singing.  If I am driving by myself for three hours, I sing along loudly to every song for the duration of the drive.

I’m fiscally conservative and socially liberal. I’m a pissed-off-Catholic/agnostic who would probably be happy settling for Methodist or Lutheran, but is too lazy to bother going to church at all.  I enjoy history classes and astronomy classes. I love geometry but hate algebra. I write a lot because I want to. I don’t talk much in my classes, but around my friends I don’t shut up.  I like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Firefly, The X-Files, South Park, National Geographic Explorer, and Deadliest Warrior. I like Aerosmith, Van Halen, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Def Leppard, and Brahms. I like Hybrid and Styles & Breeze. I like Ludo and fun. I like The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King and I like Zoolander.

I’m sarcastic, snarky, grouchy, irritable, impatient, loud, righteous, and defensive. I’m friendly, clever, quirky, and too nice to say no even when I should.

I wear different earrings every day and I like hats.

I am a stickler for grammar but rarely proofread my blog posts.

I don’t actually care if my socks match.

I want to go to a rave someday.

I prefer cats over dogs.

I like Mexican food.

I am just narcissistic enough to continue writing because I believe you may actually care or be interested in my unremarkable and mundane life.

But I also have an actual life to live.

So you can just check back for more later.
